Configuring AutoPlay for CD/DVD drives and removable drives in Windows XP In Windows XP, you must set autorun preferences for each CD/DVD drive and removable drive separately. You should set these to Take no action or to view device contents with Windows/File Explorer. In Windows 8, open Settings search using keyboard shortcut Windows Key+W, type "autoplay" in Search box and click AutoPlay.
It allowed me to shutoff the USB drives, but still keep autoplay for the CD-ROM. Additional information about the AutoPlay feature can be found on our AutoPlay dictionary definition.
