DLP TV + PS2 Horror Story
![]() |
I was just talking to my friend who told me about a horrible story about his DLP television. He has a Samsung 56in DLP television, which he purchased a little over a year ago from Costco. A few days ago his friend went to his house and brought his ps2 over to play. So they plugged it in and was surprised by a loud noise and then the TV turning off. He tried playing around with it for a while but just could not get the TV to turn back on. All he heard was a very weird noise coming from the back of the television. He then decided to look in the manual to find out that there is a warning against plugging in a ps2 into the TV. Apparently the ps2 and the Samsung DLP TV don’t work with each other, and actually breaks the TV when it is plugged in.
He was able to return the TV after the warranty was up (thanks to Costco) and got a plasma instead. This has to be the most ridiculous problem I have ever heard. How would just plugging in a ps2 absolutely render a $2000 TV useless? Good job on that one Samsung.

Um That has nothing to do with the ps2. The ps2 plugs in Via the rca cables all the tv sees is that it is a stream of information coming into it.
If the tv were to burn out that would most likely be the power transformer going. The tv sees all the inputs the same, a cd player is a dvd player is a vcr or a ps2.
That is why you have a video input and not more specific.
I know it doesn’t seem like it has anything to do with RCA cables, but it does. All he did was literally plug in the ps2 and broke his TV. The manual reads do not plug a ps2 into this TV. Too bad he didn’t see that before he plugged it in.
What happened to my comment? There is no mention in the Samsung manual about not plugging in a PS2 via RCA composite, or RCA component. What model number is your friend’s TV? I’m really curious now. Either way, it’s you (oops, your friend) who’s at fault. If it was in the manual, it should have been read and never been an issue. If it was not, then you’re full of it. I basically said the same thing in a comment when this came out and it never showed up. Man up Matt!
Well pal, my ps2 has been plugged in to my samsung 42″ dlp tv for over a year and a half and its been fine, also plugged in, a nintendo wii and when my brother comes over his xbox360 by composite. so stop talking rubbish…..
Stop talking crap…..
Bull.
I’ve used my PS2 for years on the 42″ version of this same TV. No problems… ever.
