Googlers Googling Me

Posted by Matthew Berman On February - 8 - 2008

Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to take a second to write this quick post. I have noticed a couple people searching for my name, and my site in Google. Four different times someone from Arizona did a search for my name. This is not such a big deal because this person may have been looking for a different Matthew Berman.

However, I just noticed someone did a “site:” query in Google for InternetBusinessDaily.net. The location of this user is NY, NY and the ISP is listed as Google, Inc. I am not quite sure what to make of this. Maybe they were interested in hiring me:). Regardless, if you were the one looking for me (or my site) from Google, I see you…heheh.

Sincerely,

Matt

7 Reasons Why Google is Like a Woman

Posted by Matthew Berman On January - 8 - 2008

I have been a webmaster for a few years now, and Google tends to perplex me slightly less than a woman does. Upon realizing this, I started thinking about all the other ways that Google can be compared to a woman and was surprised to notice that there were plenty of ways. Here are the reasons why Google is exactly like a woman, from a webmaster’s perspective:

  • 1. Can’t live with her, can’t live without her. - Just like a woman, it is both impossible to live with and without Google. It’s good times when Google loves you and you’re receiving traffic that is so targeted that it is converting at levels not seen anywhere else. However, for Google to love you so, you must change everything about yourself (aka your site). You must put keywords in the right places, h-tags, sitemaps and everything else to please Google. If you don’t do exactly what Google (or your woman) says, the love vanishes as quickly as it came.
  • 2. No one knows exactly what goes on inside the head of women. - Just like women, no one except a select few inside Google know exactly how the algorithm works. One day you may just fall off the index and you’ll never know why. Google (and women) change their mind multiple times per day about what is acceptable to them and judges you constantly.
  • 3. Always looking for something better. - Google is constantly comparing you (your website) against every other website (fish in the sea) out there. As soon as Google finds something better, they have no problem moving you down and out.
  • 4. Women love the popular guy. - Just like a woman, Google judges you on how popular you are (links). The more popular a site is, the more Google gives it its sweet, sweet lovin’.
  • 5. You’ll never know you did something wrong till it’s too late. - Women love to randomly be angry at a guy for seemingly no reason. Just like Google will penalize you for seemingly no reason and by the time you realize, it is too late. The worst part is even when you do realize you did something wrong, Google (and especially women) won’t say a damn word about why or what you did.
  • 6. Women withhold sex when they are angry at you. - Google, just like a woman, will withhold your favorite thing from you if you have done something wrong. Just like #5, you’ll never know the reason why, but are forced to suffer the consequences none-the-less (no Google traffic).
  • 7. When it’s good, it’s really good. - By the slim chance that you have done everything right and Google decides to let you into her loving embrace, times couldn’t be better. You will feel on top of the world. Remember, this love is fleeting so don’t do anything to piss her off like sleep with her sister…err, I mean use Yahoo.

It’s Been a While…

Posted by Matthew Berman On August - 11 - 2007

I know, I know. I haven’t posted in over a month. I have been so busy with work and my websites, I haven’t had any spare time. I have many posts in the works however. I have a great guide to using Google Analytics coming, and some basic search engine optimization tips.

I have also been diving deep into adwords. I have been optimizing all the campaigns for my company. It is a great feeling when you have a fully optimized keyword list that is actually driving high quality targeted traffic. The traffic has been converting into loyal users very well.

So don’t worry everyone, posts will be coming soon!

iPhone

Posted by Matthew Berman On July - 2 - 2007

I waited in line like everybody else Friday night and got myself an iPhone. I love it. Apple did an amazing job of putting everything I wanted a mobile device to have all in one amazingly simple to use GUI. I have been having a couple problems here and there such as apps crashing (maps and safari) and one more serious problem: video play doesn’t work while the iPhone is connected to a PowerBook G4 1.33 after syncing. The iPhone goes into playback mode but the video is scrambled. It freezes on one frame and switches back and forth between that and a green frame. I tried videos I bought from iTunes and the built in YouTube app and nothing. This is a pretty serious problem…does anyone else have this issue? I waited for about 2 minutes and tried the videos again and they worked fine.

**While writing this post I found another bug. I am trying to listen to music and go on safari at the same time and my music keeping quitting on me. Let me know if anyone else gets this problem.

3 More Days Till iPhone

The Long Wait…
I have been waiting over 8 months for the iPhone. Even before it was officially announced I knew it was only a matter of time before Apple made this dream product. I am ready and willing to drop at least the $600 base price for the phone, which does not include a plan or data service or anything else. All I can think about it having the entire internet at my finger tips wherever I am. I’ll have all the information of the world including wikipedia, google maps, and email 24 hours per day.

Is Almost Over…
They just announced the data plan for new and existing customers and it’s not too bad. $30 will get me all the SMS and web browsing I need. So does anyone think I will have to wait in line for the iPhone? I sure hope not, but I have seen reports of people waiting already. I figure i’ll go to a Cingular store 2 hours before the release and wait, but that’s about all the waiting in line i’m capable of. I’ll write up an entire review on the iPhone and let everyone know how it is and if it lives up to its’ expectations. The only thing I am worried about is the keyboard, which has had mixed reviews so far. Everyone wish me luck in fighting the crowds of crazed Apple fans for this ultimate gadget!

Quick Update

Sweet Link-Lovin
I have been very busy lately so I have not had a chance to post anything in over a week! I just want to give an update of what’s been going on. First, Internet Business Daily has been receiving record traffic lately. Between getting many back links from sites to some of my more popular posts and this great home made (office made) music video, which received over 30 link backs so far (including crunchnotes.com which is PR7) I have been getting many new users to the site. Welcome!

What I’ve Been Doing
Other than working a whole bunch still, I have been doing a lot of research into SEO. I have taken a real interest in it and hope to become masterful some day soon.

I will try to get some more posts up more often, so hang in there. Thanks for all the link-love everyone!

SEO Tips (Part 7) - Log Link Matching

Posted by Matthew Berman On May - 27 - 2007

Introduction
I would like to thank Blue Hat SEO for this excellent SEO technique. Before we begin I invite you to check out the rest of my SEO Tips segments. I am going to give me simplified version of this technique, but read a more detailed explanation at Blue Hat Seo. The reason I enjoy reading Blue Hat so much is because he gives advanced SEO techniques that very few people know about, and just as the name entails I believe Blue Hat is a mixture of black and white SEO hat techniques. Anyways enough talk let’s start with the SEO tip.

Objective
Let’s start with a description of what our objective is. Google can only index pages that have a link to it, from another page that has already been indexed. Logically, it can’t find what it can’t see. Knowing this let’s say for example there are 100 web pages that link to yours, and Google only knows about 80% of them. This means that there are 20 pages giving your website link-love that don’t get counted by Google. What we are going to do is give those web pages some life (get them indexed) and then our dormant links wake up and give us some credit.

How-To
Check your log files for your referrers list. This will tell you who has linked to your website without having to rely on Google’s ’site:’ operator. So after we have the list, we want to get these sites indexed. There are a few ways to do this but I have found pingoat.com is the best. Pingoat will ping all major RSS and blog services with your address, and it will get indexed. Now that these previously useless links to us have been brought to life, we will get much more Google love.

Drunk College Fun

Posted by Matthew Berman On April - 26 - 2007

I put this video up on YouTube about three years ago, before it became the video juggernaut it is today. The video is of me and my drunk college buddies doing some stupid stuff. They take a exercise ball and run straight at each other and whoever was standing after won, but really no one won this game. I am the one recording the video. The sound got all messed up for some reason when I uploaded it to YouTube, but I don’t want to upload another one. Check it out: (skip ahead to 1:40 if you want to see the funniest part)

Book Review: The Victim Donor

Posted by Matthew Berman On April - 14 - 2007

My friend’s father has recently written a book (medical fiction), and has asked me to review it for him on my site. For as long as I have known this family for, I was more than happy to do this little favor for him. So as most of you know I am anything but a great writer, but here is my best attempt at a book review:

Both shocking and spellbinding, The Victim Donor tells the story of a family man who struggles to discover why he has become the focus of a gruesome kidnapping plot, which seems to have more of an underlying motive.

Stockbroker John Harris III is living the American dream with Cheryl, his physician wife and college sweetheart. Together they have four young children, a house in the mountains of Utah, their health, their love, money, and stability. Their lives are suddenly turned upside-down when Harris is kidnapped one morning on his way to work.

The local Utah police and the FBI make little headway on the case until, to everyone’s surprise, Harris turns up alone and comatose in a motel room several states away. He’s in perfect health except that he’s missing a kidney—the result of a rogue surgery performed by a world-class talent.

Urban legend suddenly becomes suburban reality and nightmare for the Harris family as they face some terrifying questions and realities. Why did the kidnappers choose Harris as their victim donor? And why did they allow him to survive? Harris and his family are about to learn the horrifying answers.

So if you enjoy medical fiction, The Victim Donor is absolutely for you. It is a great read with many plot twists that leaves you asking: “can this happen to me??”

You can find Ken Corre’s website at www.kencorre.com, where you can read reviews and purchase the book. I invite all of you to check it out.
