The artifact seems to stretch from the gameworld ground upwards into the sky, and appears to be some kind of a 3D grid-type thing (excuse my limited game engine knowledge).

With the Radeon X800 XL, ATI has redefined the upper-middle class of the graphics market, and NVIDIA will have to respond by slashing the price of the GeForce 6800 GT or Let's hope they can keep the supply of these cards flowing freely. I'd like to purchase a second copy of the game for my older machine for multi-player, but I wont do that until this is resolved. The overheating has probably caused something on the video card to fail which is leading to the corrupted display and hence the lockups/system freezes. What's not to like? Even though the X1600 came out later, the X800 series is the more powerful card. I thought maybe the card was overheating, but I always keep the case open and today I even put a pretty powerful 12" fan pointed at the open case to see Uninstall them completely, possibly using something like Driver Sweeper to clean left-over files, and then do a clean install of the latest drivers.
